  1. PURPOSE: At Backyard Living Source (BLS), our goal is to provide financial aid to students who are pursuing an education in horticulture, agriculture, or business.
  2. AWARDS: Twice a year, 5 eligible applicants are randomly chosen to receive $500 each to be used towards school expenses awarded in the form of a check and paid directly to the recipients’ schools. Scholarship awards are to be used solely toward the required tuition, fees, books, or supplies in connection with the enrollment of the recipient, at an educational institution as outlined in Section 4: Eligibility. Awards are not subject to Federal Income Tax if the recipient’s school meets the requirements and regulations outlined in Section 117 of the Internal Revenue Code. All federal, state, and local taxes are the sole responsibility of recipients/parents/legal guardians. No substitution or transfer of award is permitted except that BLS reserves the right to substitute an award for one of equal or greater value, in its sole discretion. A 1099 tax statement will be filed with the IRS for the value of the award. All recipients that receive an award will receive a 1099 form in the mail, to be processed in the tax year in which their award is received.
  3. SCHOLARSHIP OPEN APPLICATION PERIODS: There are two entry periods each year for the Backyard Living Source, Inc. (BLS) scholarship. Entry for scholarships awarded in the fall begins at midnight Mountain Time on April 1 and ends at 11:59 pm Mountain Time on July 31 of the same year. Entry for scholarships awarded in the spring begins the previous year at midnight Mountain Time on August 1 and ends at 11:59 pm Mountain Time on November 30 of the same year. Applications must be received within the specified entry period and before the entry deadline.

  4. ELIGIBILITY: Scholarship applicants must be legal residents of the United States, Washington D.C., or a United States Territory. They must be attending an accredited undergraduate/graduate post-secondary institution or higher education technical/ trade school for the semester the scholarship is awarded and majoring in horticulture, agriculture, or business.
  5. RESTRICTIONS: The BLS scholarship is a one-time non-renewable award. Winning recipients are disqualified from entering again and may not be awarded the scholarship more than once. Employees of Backyard Living Source, Inc. and immediate family members are not eligible to enter.
  6. HOW TO ENTER: During the open application period, applicants enter to win by visiting www.GrandioGreenhouses.com/scholarship and following directions to complete the online registration form in its entirety. Entries must be in English. Entries that do not meet the requirements outlined in these Official Rules will be disqualified. Limit one (1) entry per person per drawing. Applicants may apply for multiple drawings. Entries must be received by 11:59 pm MT on the last day of each entry period to be eligible for the drawing for that applicable entry period as defined in Section 3: Scholarship Open Application Periods.
  7. DRAWINGS AND ODDS: Five recipients will be selected in each of two random drawings on or about the dates listed in Section 3, from all eligible entries received by the end of each application period. Approximate odds of winning are dependent upon the total number of eligible entries received by the end of each application period. All random drawings are conducted by an owner of BLS whose decisions are final on all matters relating to the random drawings.
  8. RECIPIENT NOTIFICATION: Potential recipients are notified via email and/or phone and are required to electronically sign and return a Declaration Package which includes but is not limited to: Declaration of Eligibility, Liability/Publicity release (except where prohibited by law) and assignment of rights within five (5) days of notification attempt or potential recipient may be disqualified and an alternate potential recipient may be randomly selected. If any portion of the Declaration Package is not received within the required time, or if a potential recipient is deemed ineligible, said recipient will be disqualified and an alternate will be selected (as outlined above).
  9. GENERAL RULES: BLS reserves the right to conduct a background check on the recipients and their parents and/or legal guardians and reserves the right in its sole discretion to disqualify any scholarship recipient based on the results of such background check(s), if BLS determines in its sole discretion that awarding a scholarship to such a recipient might reflect negatively on BLS. Factors that could result in a disqualification may include, without limitation, any recipient having been convicted of a felony or misdemeanor, or delinquency on a government-ordered payment such as child support or tax payments. As a condition of entry, all applicants agree to release and hold harmless BLS and its Administrators, and all others associated with the development and execution of the scholarship from and against any and all liability, claims, or actions of any kind whatsoever for injuries, damages or losses to persons or property which may be sustained in connection with submitting an entry or otherwise participating in any aspect of the scholarship process, the receipt, ownership or use of scholarship awarded or any typographical or other error in these Official Rules or the announcement or offering of the scholarships. Applicants assume all liability for any injury or damage caused or claimed to be caused by participation in the scholarship process or use or redemption of the scholarship. Acceptance of a scholarship constitutes permission to use Applicant’s names, likenesses, and entries for promotional purposes, without further compensation, except where prohibited by law. By entering, applicants accept and agree to be bound by these Official Rules. BLS reserves the right at its sole discretion to disqualify any individual that tampers or attempts to tamper with the entry process or the operation of the scholarship process; violates the Official Rules; acts in an unsportsmanlike or disruptive manner; or acts with intent to annoy, abuse, threaten or harass any person, college, or university. The released parties are not responsible for technical, hardware, or software malfunctions, telephone failures of any kind, loss of unavailable network connections, or failed, incorrect, inaccurate, incomplete, garbled, or delayed electronic communications, whether caused by the sender, by any of the equipment or programming associated with or utilized in the scholarship process which may limit the ability to participate, or by any human error which may occur in the processing of the entries of the scholarships. Entries generated by script or bot are not eligible. BLS reserves the right to cancel, terminate, or modify the scholarship drawings if they cannot be completed as planned for any reason, including but not limited to infection by computer virus, bugs, tampering, unauthorized intervention, technical failures, or corruption of any sort. In such an event, BLS will randomly select the potential recipients for all remaining scholarships due to be awarded before cancellation for each applicable drawing. BLS reserves the right to award fewer than the stated number of available scholarships if an insufficient number of eligible entries are received for any entry period.
  10. DISPUTES: Applicants agree that: (a) all disputes, claims, and causes of action arising out of or connected with this scholarship shall be resolved individually, without resort to any form of class action, and solely and exclusively in a federal or state court located in the state of Idaho. Applicants submit to sole and exclusive personal jurisdiction to said courts in the state of Idaho for any such dispute and irrevocably waives all rights to object to such jurisdiction; (b) all claims, judgments, and awards shall be limited to actual out-of-pocket costs incurred, including costs associated with entering this scholarship application process but in no event attorneys’ fees; and (c) under no circumstances will rights to claim punitive, incidental and consequential damages and all rights to have damages multiplied or otherwise increased. All issues and questions concerning the construction, validity, interpretation, and enforceability of the Official Rules, or the rights and obligations of applicants in connection with this scholarship shall be governed by, and construed in accordance with, the laws of the state of Idaho, without giving effect to any choice of law or conflict of law rules of provisions, which would cause the application of the laws of any jurisdiction other the state of Idaho.
  11. DATA COLLECTION: BLS collects personal information from applicants when they submit an entry for the scholarship for use in the administration of the scholarship application process. The information collected is subject to the BLS Privacy Policy located at www.grandiogreenhouses.com/privacy-policy/. Completing the entry form also constitutes your consent to opt-in to the BLS email marketing list. You may opt-out at any time by using the “unsubscribe” link. If you decide to opt-out, this will not affect your ability to enter the scholarship or your odds of winning.
  12. RECIPIENTS LIST: Once the selection process is finalized, recipients are posted on our scholarship page at www.grandiogreenhouses.com/scholarship.
